New meaning

Katie joined our family one year ago. As I think about that, I’m struck by how God has used Katies life to deepen my understanding of His fathers love for me. God’s been using these verses to bring me great joy:

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. Ephesians 1:3-6 (NLT)

As I think about the joy, happiness and pleasure Katie has brought to my life, I’m humbled to think that God also wanted to adopt me and that the act of adopting me it brought him great pleasure.

Adopting Katie has been costly in terms of time, sleep and money. Although we have spent countless hours in offices, cues, at the photocopier, doctors offices… not once has it detracted from the love, joy and delight that I find in having Katie in our family and in our home.

The cost of my adoption into God’s family is so infinitely greater that the cost of Katie’s adoption and yet it still gave God pleasure to adopt me. I am humbled.

God decided in advance to adopt ME. He wanted to and it brought him great pleasure. I’m secure, loved and valued. I’m humbled.
