Philippians 2.5-11 – 3 Questions

Take some time to read and re-read the following section from Philippians and ask yourself the questions that follow:

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2.5-11

  1. … equality with God … gave up his divine privileges … took the humble position of a slave … died a criminal’s death on a cross. When was the last time I took time out to do nothing but thank Jesus for the sacrifice he gave to us. When was the last time I took time out to give thanks to God for his love. Christ gave up the highest position in the universe to die the lowliest humblest death. I need to take time to meditate on this and thank God for his love, mercy and justice.
  2. Have the same attitude as Christ Jesus … equality with God … gave up his divine privileges … took the humble position of a slave … died a criminal’s death on a cross.   What a calling. Again Christ gave up the highest position in the universe to die the lowliest humblest death – and I am called to have the same attitude or mind. How puny are the things that I hold onto with my pride compared to what Christ gave up. Why do I hold on to them? Do I not get the bigger picture of heaven, eternity and God’s glory? It is good to note here that it say – he humbled himself. Do I need to humble myself today or will God have to use someone else to humble me?
  3. … name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. When was the last time I took time out to give praise to Christ for his majesty and Godness. When was the last time I meditated on these facts. Praise be to God that He is ruler over all the universe. Praise be to God that He is God.
