The importance of a Father leading the home spiritually

I am a firm believer that God has created everyone equal. However, I am also a firm believer that God has given everyone different roles in different situations. This holds in all aspects of lives according to our gifts/talents, our gender, our age and everything else that makes us us. In a family this means that a wife/mother and a husband/father have different roles, under God, to undertake. I have written a little about one of the roles of a wife toward her husband here. One of the roles of a father is to lead the home spiritually.

Recently I came across a blog post that put forward some statistics that seemed to support God’s setup in the home. Here is a quote from this blog post that comes straight from the essay it is summarizing:

In short, if a father does not go to church, no matter how faithful his wife’s devotions, only one child in 50 will become a regular worshipper. If a father does go regularly, regardless of the practice of the mother, between two-thirds and three-quarters of their children will become churchgoers (regular and irregular). If a father goes but irregularly to church, regardless of his wife’s devotion, between a half and two-thirds of their offspring will find themselves coming to church regularly or occasionally.

The post is actually a summary of a must more detailed essay which can be found here.

I have also written before on the roles of fathers from a sermon preached by our pastor here.
