Bible Stories and Play Dough

Would you put these two together?

Well it appears to three and four year olds they go very well together.

One morning, when Ewan was off school we made a few batches of homemade play dough together and got out my Bible.

I started to read the days of creation and stopped after each day. Together we talked about the things that God had made that day and how we could make them out of play dough. This is what we came up with.

Day one: “Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”

We made little balls and hid them in our “dark hands” and then opened our hands to the light.

Day Two: God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space “sky.”

This was Ewan’s idea. The flat sky and the round earth beneath 🙂

Day Three: Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit.

(Lydia’s flower)

Day Four: God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars.

Day Five: Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.”

And this is what Katie got up too, when she got up from her nap on day five!

Poor Lydia said she didn’t want to play anymore on day five. It was very unlike her. About 15 misn later I found her asleep on the sofa. She woke 2 hours later with a high temperatue. Poor thing.

But Ewan and I finished off day six with: “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals……. Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.

(That’s Adam, incase you were wondering 🙂 )

And on the seventh day we rested!

A very enjoyable way to spend a hour with the kido’s. The next day Ewan decided to to David and Goliath and make a “BIG HUGE GIANT”. I had visions of play dough “stones” flying around the kitchen, but he was very restrained and I didn’t find any play dough in strange places after all 🙂

I got the idea here

  1. Brilliant well Done !!
